Economic concepts can be challenging. Text descriptions of data can be overly complex and difficult to grasp. Talking about numbers using only words often doesn't work.
During World War II, the U.S. army completed a study finding that communication is most efficient when words are combined with pictures, leading them to recruit comics legend Will Eisner to add artwork to their equipment maintenance manuals. Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) uses a similar approach to illuminate complex economic concepts like the Consumer Price Index or productivity measures. Capitalizing on modern technology, the BLS has created a series of animated educational videos that combine words, images, and motion to quickly and clearly convey economic ideas.
