Why is it called Montana Career Lab?

A laboratory is a place of exploration and discovery. Of learning and creation. With Montana Career Lab, you can EXPLORE different career options, DISCOVER your best path to a rewarding, meaningful career, LEARN to use Labor Market Information to guide your decisions, and CREATE a personalized plan to achieve your goals.

What is Montana Career Lab?

Montana Career Lab is more than a website. It is a collection of career planning resources including publications, videos, activities, and online information to help you make informed decisions about your future.

What Does Montana Career Lab Offer?

The centerpiece of Montana Career Lab’s resources is the Montana Career Information System, known as MCIS. MCIS is an all-in-one career planning system that lets users search for and save detailed information on occupations, programs of study, scholarships, and interest assessments. It allows users to create personal portfolios where they can save their research, plan school courses, keep track of their applications, and generate custom resumes in multiple styles. Best of all, MCIS is free to use for all Montana residents. Just use the MCIS login, found on every page of Montana Career Lab.

But MCIS isn’t the only thing Montana Career Lab offers.

For job seekers, whether you need to find employment as quickly as possible, or you’re switching careers to find a better match, Montana Career Lab has something for you. The PEP Talk Personal Employment Plan is designed to help people with limited time develop a plan to get hired as quickly as possible. The Montana Career Guide is a start-to-finish career planning publication that walks users through each step of career planning, from exploring your interests to preparing for a job interview.

For students, Montana Career Lab has publications and resources for all grade levels. For our youngest users, publications such as Career Peeks and Career Heroes focus on career awareness, using fun activities to introduce kids to the world of work. For older students, Montana Career Lab publications emphasize the connection between school and careers, and teaches them to use Labor Market Information to plan for the future.

Parents using Montana Career Lab will find daily activities designed to get their children thinking about career exploration. You can access our Activities Page either from our main website, or through our Facebook Page. Parents also have access to age-appropriate publications and workbooks, and instructional materials for making the most of MCIS.
